When our vet arrives at your property, they will sit down with you and discuss the process and answer any questions you may have. You may be present throughout the whole process, or if you feel more comfortable at any time you are more than welcome to step out and wait in another room.
Prior to euthanasia our vet will likely give a sedative injection which will allow your pet to relax and drift into a peaceful sleep. This injection can take up to 10 minutes to take effect, so the vet may wait outside your door to allow you time with your pet as they fall asleep.
Once your pet is asleep the vet will place a cannula into a vein in your pets leg, this requires clipping a small patch of fur.
The final step is administering an injection into this cannula.
For cats, we likely will not even need to place a cannula, instead we will give the injection directly once they are asleep.
This injection will allow your pet to pass over. This is a completely pain-free injection that usually takes less than 30 seconds to take effect.
